PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method for a polycondensation type resin attaining control of a reaction speed of a polycondensation reaction having a narrow distribution of a softening point, and a polycondensation type resin obtained by the method. SOLUTION: In the manufacturing method for the polycondensation type resin, a raw material monomer is subjected to a polycondensation reaction using the catalyst containing a metal and a compound having a benzene ring in which at least two hydrogen atoms are substituted by hydroxyl groups. At the time when a reaction ratio of the polycondensation reaction is 30% or higher, the manufacturing method for the polycondensation type resin includes a step in which a phosphorus compound is added to a reaction system.
