PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery electronic key in which a battery service life is increased. SOLUTION: This electric lock system 1 uses the battery electronic key 2 for communicating ID data using electromagnetic wave. The electric lock system comprises a controller 3 which transmits an electromagnetic wave for inquiry to the battery electronic key 2 at intervals, receives the ID data transmitted from the battery electronic key 2 in response to the electromagnetic wave for inquiry, discriminates the validity thereof, and controllably locks or unlocks an electric lock 4 based on the result of the discrimination. The battery electronic key 2 in which the signal width of the electromagnetic wave considered to be a normal signal is preset is started by receiving a signal, when receiving the electromagnetic wave for inquiry from the controller 3, considers the electromagnetic wave as a normal signal and transmits ID data, and when receiving the signal not considered to be a normal signal continuously more than a specified number of times, is brought into a sleep state where the key performs a low power consumption operation.
