PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter driver and a control method of a filter driver, simply performing maintenance of a device without restart of a host computer and uninstallation (deletion)/installation (insertion) of the filter driver. SOLUTION: The control method of a filter driver includes the steps of: recognizing an instruction of a device control request issued from a maintenance application (S01); determining whether the instruction has an extended control request (S02); if the instruction does not have the extended control request, determining whether setting of the control request control included in the instruction is invalid or valid (S04); and if the setting of the control request control is invalid, accepting the device control request and notifying a standard device class driver of the device control request, and if valid, rejecting the device control request and notifying the maintenance application of the rejection of the control request (S03, S05).
