PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve automatic sheet kind setting based on printing condition by a maximally cost-reduced simple constitution, in a printer having a flat head scanner function. SOLUTION: A package Q with printing sheets P housed is pushed into a sheet pocket 2 provided in a surface of an original cover 7 opposite to an original platen 6 to open a read-out window in the original cover 7, by which a flat head scanner automatically operates to read out sheet kind information printed on the package Q through the read-out window, to recognize the kind of the printing sheets P housed in the package Q by a recognition processing means based on the read-out sheet kind information and to automatically set the recognized kind of sheet to the kind of sheet based on the printing condition by a printing condition setting means.
