PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state image pickup element capable of suppressing at least either a blackening phenomenon or a lateral stripe phenomenon from being generated when a high-luminance light is incident. SOLUTION: The solid-state image pickup element comprises: a pixel section 200 in which pixels 100 are two-dimensionally arranged, each pixel 100 having a photodiode, a charge storing section for storing signal charges of the photodiode, an amplification transistor and a reset transistor having one end connected to the charge storing section and controlled by a row reset pulse applied to a gate, and which has a vertical signal line 110 having one end connected to a power supply section 201 and outputting pixel signals; a CDS circuit section 204 for calculating a difference between a first signal outputted immediately after the application of a first potential as a row reset pulse and a second signal for the signal charge; and a reset transistor control means 250 for applying a second potential of the row reset pulse for interrupting the reset transistor and a third potential of intermediate of the first potential during a timing of output of the first and second signals.
