PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly detect a rotating position, even if a plurality of stator poles cannot be easily arranged at equal intervals over entire one rotation due to structural restrictions such as an obstacle existing in the periphery of a detection target rotating shaft. SOLUTION: A plurality of coils to be excited by an AC signal are arranged sequentially shifted within a range of a predetermined partial rotation angle less than one rotation of the rotating shaft. A magnetism-responsive member, which is relatively rotated and displaced to a coil portion, is shaped so as to change a relative rotating position of the member and the coil portion according to rotation of the detection target and change an impedance of each coil according to this relative rotating position. Rotating position detection data of the rotating shaft is obtained based on an output voltage according to the impedance of each coil. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
