PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element holding mechanism that achieves thinning in the optical axis direction by preventing a manufacturing error even when the external size of an imaging element is larger than that of the optical element or when the optical element is thin. SOLUTION: The optical element holding mechanism has: a CCD mask 8 which regulates the position in the optical axis direction of an optical filter 5; and a CCD holder 23 which regulates the position in the optical axis orthogonal plane. A holding member 51 holding the optical filter 5 provided in the CCD holder 23 is arranged overlapping in the optical axis direction with the CCD mask 8. Specifically, the holding member 51 holding the optical filter 5 is arranged in an optical axis orthogonal plane which is approximately identical with the optical axis orthogonal plane on which the CCD mask 8 is arranged.
