Disclosed is a method for producing a sulfone compound represented by formula (1), which comprises a step of obtaining a compound represented by formula (4) by reacting a compound represented by formula (3) with a chlorate or a bromate, and then reacting the resulting reaction liquid with HX or X2; a step of obtaining a compound represented by formula (5) or formula (6) by reacting a compound represented by formula (4) with a halogenating agent or M(OCOR)n; or a step of obtaining a compound represented by formula (7) by reacting a compound represented by formula (5) or formula (6) with an inorganic base.
