PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an IP telephone set achieving both further reduction in power consumption and improvement in convenience during a power saving mode period, and to provide a control method thereof. SOLUTION: An IP telephone set (A)1 includes: an operation and control means 10; a power feeding switching circuit 20 for switching between a normal operating mode for carrying out power feeding from an external power source and a power saving mode for stopping power feeding; a switching timer circuit 21 for measuring a period of no user operation during a normal operating mode period and detecting that the measured period exceeds a predetermined setting time; and an operation monitor circuit 24 which is operated by an incorporated battery 22 and monitors presence/absence of user operation during a power saving mode period. When the period of no user operation measured by the switching timer circuit 21 exceeds the predetermined setting time during the normal operating mode period, the normal operating mode is switched to the power saving mode and when the operation monitor circuit 24 detects user operation during the power saving mode period, the power saving mode is switched to the normal operating mode.
