PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the number of disconnected optical fibers in a light guide and make a user correctly grasp the timing of replacing the endoscope. SOLUTION: An endoscope inspecting method is designed to perform inspection with a cap mounted on the tip, having a test chart and sealing the tip of an electronic endoscope 10 light-tightly, by operating a solid-state imaging device 50 and a light source device 12. A disconnected optical fiber count computing section 68 computes N satisfying the relational expression N=M×(1-Y/I) as the disconnected optical fiber count when the average brightness value of the test chart detected by a light measuring circuit 64 is Y, the estimated ideal average brightness value when there is no disconnection in the optical fibers in the light guide 80 is I and the total number of optical fibers is M.
