PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expander, in simple and cost-reduced constitution without a pressure sensor, a control part for that, a check valve, or the like, capable of correctly restricting an over-expansion phenomenon. SOLUTION: An upper communication groove 6a is formed on the side of an upper bearing 8, and a lower communication groove 9a is formed on the side of a first cylinder 11. A lower-pressure-side expansion chamber 19b of an expansion chamber 19 is thus connected to a coolant discharge hole 15 in curvature. On the lower communication groove 9a, a communication hole 9b is made so as to be continuous with the coolant discharge hole 15. A chip seal 22, comprising resin material, is housed in the lower communication groove 9a so as to clog the communication hole 9b. When there is an over-expansion phenomenon, the difference pressure between the side of the coolant discharge hole 15 and the low-pressure-side expansion chamber 19b is added to the chip seal 22, and coolant on the side of the coolant discharge hole 15 flows back to the low-pressure-side expansion chamber 19b to restore pressure, and precisely restrains the over-expansion phenomenon.
