<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seal assembly for a cannula for enabling introduction of a wide range of surgical instruments and maintaining integrity of air in the inner range of cavity. <P>SOLUTION: A surgical access apparatus includes: an access member defining a longitudinal axis and having a longitudinal passageway; and an access housing mountable to the access member including a diaphragm 330 mounted thereto. The diaphragm 330 is adapted for rotational motion around the longitudinal axis relative to the access housing. The diaphragm defines at least one internal pocket and has a seal assembly 300 disposed within the at least one internal pocket.
