<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retractable mechanical pencil that projects a nib 10 by pressing a knob 20 protruding from the rear end of a shaft tube and that delivers a lead 6 by shaking. <P>SOLUTION: The nib 10 installed in the front part of an inner shaft 9 is energized to the rear in the longitudinal direction by a return spring 14. This nib 10 is projected by pressing the knob 20 protruding from the rear end of the shaft tube, and the inner shaft 9 is locked in an advanced position by a rotary cam 16 to set a writing condition. Also, a weight 8 is incorporated in the inner shaft 9, and the knob 20 is installed in a pushing member 18. Further, a locking projection 17A of a core 17 is slidably engaged in the longitudinal direction with the locking window 18C of the pushing member 18 to connect the core 17 to the pushing member 18.
