PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the short-circuit of the surface magnetic flux between a plurality of permanent magnets arranged on a rotor for a rotating electric machine, thereby improving the performance of the rotating electric machine. SOLUTION: In the rotor 14 for the rotating electric machine, two magnetic pole arrays with a plurality of main permanent magnets 52L and 52R are juxtaposed in the direction of the axis L so that magnetic poles of different polarities are alternately arranged in a circumferential direction. The main permanent magnets 52L and 52R facing each other in the direction of the axis L, are composed with different polarities. The polarity of a sub-permanent magnet 39 formed between the main permanent magnets 52L and 52R facing each other in the direction of the axis L, is arranged so as to suppress the short circuit of the surface magnetic flux between the main permanent magnets 52L and 52R. In the rotor 14, the main permanent magnets 52L and 52R facing each other in the circumferential direction, are composed with different polarities. The polarities of sub-permanent magnets 40L and 40R formed between the main permanent magnets 52L and 52R facing each other in the circumferential direction, are arranged so as to suppress the short circuit of the surface magnetic flux between the main permanent magnets 52L and 52R.
