487,164. Filters. ZWICKY, J. Dec. 15, 1936, No. 34447. [Class 46] A straining member for filters consists of a single sheet of gauze placed between and supported by two closely-fitting cylinders of perforated metal, the gauze being tensioned upon the inner cylinder by a rod which presses it into a recess running lengthwise of the cylinder. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a perforated cylinder 1 is reduced in diameter as shown at 16 to receive a single cylindrical sheet of gauze 2. The gauze is enclosed by a perforated cylinder 10. The cylinder 1 has a recess 3 into which the gauze is pressed by a rod 5 which is mounted to rotate on an eccentric axis. Part of the end of the rod is squared so that the rod may be turned by a spanner and secured in place by a split pin passed through perforations in a boss 8 and in the reduced end 7 of the rod. In a modification shown in Fig. 6, the rod is in two parts 13, 14 between which the two ends of a gauze sheet 2 are clamped by means of setscrews 15. |
