The method involves producing images of surrounding of a motor vehicle by a video camera (1), which is provided on the motor vehicle. The object parameters of the pedestrian are determined based on optical fluxes that are produced from the images. The height of the pedestrian and the breadth of the pedestrian are determined as the object parameters. A form factor is determined from the relationship of the height and the breadth of the pedestrian. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for determining object parameters of a pedestrian, in particular for a pedestrian protection procedure of a motor vehicle (2) a computer program with a program code.
