PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk reproducing unit which reduces useless read retry time to reproduce information of an optical disk. SOLUTION: An optical disk reproducing unit 1 has a retry determining section 11 for determining whether to read or skip information when the information cannot be read during reproduction. The retry determining section 11 executes: determining whether the reproducing position is a defect part or not and detecting the defect part based on a signal of a signal processing section 6, measuring the time in which defects are successively detected when the defect is detected, and determining whether to perform re-reading based on the measured time measuring and a threshold stored in the storage.
