PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video-reproducing apparatus and method for reproducing a vide or image file without a user being aware of a directory to a recording medium holding video and audio files or a recording apparatus. SOLUTION: A desired file can be reproduced without a user being aware of a directory to the recording medium holding the video and audio files or the recording apparatus, by displaying a list showing the desired file while preventing folders higher than the one including the dedesired file from being displayed along with the list.
