PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adhesive film position detector and an adhesive film joining apparatus where, in an adhesive film joining apparatus on a substrate, an adhesive film is joined on a substrate irrespective of a color of the adhesive film, a color of a base film to which the adhesive film is joined, a depth of each color, and a depth of each transparency. SOLUTION: An illuminator emits light obliquely to an end of an adhesive film 5. A CCD camera 11 is provided in a direction perpendicular to the adhesive film 5 to capture an image of the light reflected irregularly from the end of the adhesive film. Since a black plate 13 is provided on a back side of the adhesive film 5, only the end of the adhesive film 5 is displayed whitely by the reflected light. A position of the adhesive film 5 is determined based on a line corresponding to the end of the adhesive film. Since the light reflected from the end of the adhesive film 5 is utilized, the position of the adhesive film 5 can be determined accurately irrespective of a color of the adhesive film 5, a color of a base film 3 to which the adhesive film is joined, and a depth of each color.
