PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deformation and positional displacement of a stopper supporting member for supporting a stopper member even when a load acts on a stopper member for regulating a turnable range of a control shaft in a variable valve mechanism. SOLUTION: In an actuator for a variable valve mechanism, a first stopper member 42 provided to a control shaft 15 connected to an electric motor 21 to rotate is forced to abut on, at an (a) or (b) point, a second stopper member 43 fastened to a cylinder head 11 via the medium of a stopper supporting member 18, so that a turnable range of the control shaft 15 is regulated. A direction of a load acting on the second stopper member 43 from the first stopper member 42 is aligned with a direction of a bolt 17B for fastening the stopper supporting member 18 to the cylinder head 11, so that the load is surely transmitted to the cylinder head 11 without firmly fastening the stopper supporting member 18 to the cylinder head 11.
