PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a method for cleaning a head of an inkjet printer by which time required for head cleaning is shortened or wasteful ink consumption is reduced. SOLUTION: Before performing a fist cleaning process, a control part 30 of a printer 1 confirms whether or not a timer AID flag, a shock detection flag, a start processing flag, an AID suspension flag and a cover closing flag are set. When any one of the flags is set, the control part 30 determines that there is high possibility that many defective nozzles exist in the printer 1, and performs somewhat powerful cleaning processing (CL1 or CL2). Which is to be performed, the CL1 or the CL2, is decided according to the detected number of the defective nozzles in the first nozzle check process.
