PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an agent for promoting recovery of barrier function of the skin, increasing ratio of red light to blue light irradiated to the skin, and an external preparation for the skin. SOLUTION: The agent for promoting recovery of barrier function of the skin comprises a first material which absorbs UV and emits light at wavelength of 550-800 nm and/or a second material which causes Rayleigh scattering of light at wavelength of 400-500 nm.
