PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus can perform proper white balance adjustments upon both a main subject and a background in stroboscopic photographing under external light. SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus includes: an exposure means including a subject illumination device such as a strobe; an exposure control means for controlling the exposure means; a region setting means for distinctively setting a main subject region and a background region from an entire image region based on information of a first image captured by irradiation using the illumination device; a recording image generating means for generating a third image, which in turn is an image to be utilized, based on the first image and a second image that is captured without irradiation using the illumination device, under an exposure condition substantially including an exposure component caused by external light; and an image quality adjusting means for performing respective different white balance adjustments upon the first image and the second image during a third image generating step.
