PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a laser resonator capable of establishing compatibility between prevention of damage of an optical component and highly efficient operation of a resonator, fixing the polarization of laser light to be incident in a wavelength conversion element to an original polarization direction suitable to the wavelength conversion element, and simplifying the device configuration by using a single polarization selection element. SOLUTION: The laser resonator is provided with a laser medium 12 for exciting a first wavelength laser light (basic wave 4), and a wavelength conversion element 17 for converting the first wavelength laser light into a second wavelength (wavelength-converted light 5) different of the first wavelength. The laser resonator is provided with a polarization control element 15b for controlling the polarization state of the basic wave 4 and a polarization selection element 15a for propagating the polarization component suitable to the wavelength conversion element of the basic wave 4 toward the wavelength conversion element and scattering the other polarization component as a loss light, both the elements sequentially provided between the laser medium and the wavelength conversion element.
