摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display which has an enhanced contrast ratio by adjusting incident light intensity thereby reducing black luminance. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display 1 is provided with: a liquid crystal panel 100 which has a first liquid crystal layer 30 interposed between a pair of substrates and a plurality of effective display regions each having a reflection display region R and a transmission display region T; an illuminator 80 disposed on an outer side of one substrate and emitting light toward the liquid crystal panel 100; and a light scattering body 200 disposed between the liquid crystal panel 100 and the illuminator 80 and provided with an electrode pair sandwiching a second liquid crystal layer 70. In the liquid crystal display 1, the light scattering body 200 has a plurality of liquid crystal shutters 50 changing the regions corresponding to the transmission display regions T of the liquid crystal panel 100 into a light scattered state or a non-scattered state according to the presence of an electric field applied to the electrode pair, and the liquid crystal shutter 50 is put into a scattered state when the liquid crystal panel 100 performs the display of the lowest luminance of the display state in the transmission display regions T. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
