PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a short fiber needle punched nonwoven fabric which uses a material with low environmental loads, shows soft texture and has air permeability to exhibit excellent sound absorbing properties, windbreaking performances, and dustproof properties. SOLUTION: A polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT) short fiber, which has a fineness of 1.5-7 dtex, a strength of 1.5-3.5 cN/dtex, an elongation of 50-150%, an initial stretching resistance of 20-45 cN/dtex, a number of crimps of 5-15/25 mm, a degree of crimp of 5-25%, and a dry heat shrinkage of 0.1-7%, is used in an amount of 30-100% by mass. This improves the degree of entanglement of the mutual fibers to constitute the nonwoven fabric and gives the nonwoven fabric excellent in texture with a bending resistance not more than1,200 mN×cm, and excellent in sound absorbing properties, windbreaking performances and dustproof properties, and with an air permeability of 5-130 cm<SP>3</SP>/cm<SP>2</SP>×sec.
