A display device and a method of manufacturing the same are provided to reduce capacitance of a capacitor which delays a data signal transmitted through a data line formed by a gate line and the data line which are separated. A conductive film is formed on the first substrate in which a pixel area is defined. An insulating layer pattern is formed on the conductive film. By using the insulating layer pattern, the conductive film is etched to form a gate line covered with the insulating layer pattern. A gate insulating layer(120) covering the insulating layer pattern and gate line is formed. A data line is formed on the gate insulating layer. A pixel electrode is formed on the pixel area. The first substrate and the second substrate are combined.
