<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator capable of obtaining sufficient impregnating ability of electrolyte solution, without disturbing ion conductivity, and capable of improving separator performance or battery characteristics, and to provide a battery using the same. <P>SOLUTION: A base material layer 4a is made of a microporous membrane of a polyolefin resin. A functional resin layer 4b is made of a resin different from the polyolefin resin and has a porous interconnected structure in which a number of holes are mutually interconnected.
