PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for adjusting reaction force of a reaction force mechanism for a chair which permits an operating force necessary for adjusting a reaction force to be reduced. SOLUTION: The device for adjusting reaction force has a slider 12 arranged forward and backward movably in the direction intersecting the compression and expansion direction of a coil spring at right angles and having a through threaded hole and a cam slope 40, a retainer 13 arranged forward and backward movably in the compression and expansion direction of the coil spring, a threaded cylinder 14 threadedly engaged into the threaded hole, a reaction force adjusting rod 15 passing through the threaded cylinder 14 and engaging with the through threaded cylinder 14 in the rotation direction and slidable in the axial direction, a reaction force adjusting device storage concavity portion provided in a seat receiving frame 2 and surrounding and supporting the slider 12, the retainer 13, the resin threaded cylinder 14 and the reaction force adjusting rod 15, and a housing 16 covering the face of the inside of the concavity portion which slidingly contacts the slider 12 and the face against which the end of the threaded cylinder 14 is pressed; wherein the initial length of the coil spring is changed by converting the movement of the slider 12 linearly moved by the rotation of the threaded cylinder 14, thereby interlocking with the rod 15 to a linear movement of the retainer 13.
