PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processor and a start control method, capable of setting a time-out time in retry under the consideration of the actual processing time of a command since a command is issued to an HDD until a reply is returned. SOLUTION: An information processor measures a time-out time Tp since a command is issued until a reply is made, and stores a measured time-out Tp, and stores a time-out T1 since the command is issued until the reply is made, and stores the time-out time T1. In the case of carrying out the write-in and readout of data to an HDD 12, after the lapse of the time-out time T1, the information processor reads out the stored time-out time Tp, and converts the time-out time T2 obtained by adding a prescribed timeαto the read time-out time Tp into the time-out time T1 since the command is issued until the reply is made for update.
