A system and a method to measure temperature in an electric machine are provided to perform a necessary measurement without cutting electric machine connection. A system to measure a characteristic of a component of an electric machine includes an optical fiber(51) disposed proximate to the component, at least one sensor(52), disposed along the optical fiber, to detect the temperature of the component, and a data acquisition system(70) operably coupled to the sensor via the optical fiber to generate real-time data in accordance with the detected temperature of the component during an operation of the electric machines.
