<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To project a high-definition image, by improving the efficiency in utilizing light from a light source or an image modulation element. <P>SOLUTION: An image projection device includes: a polarization and conversion optical system 1 which emits first and second light from light sources 101, 102, while aligning their polarization directions in a first polarization direction, and emits third and fourth light from light sources 103, 104, while aligning their polarization directions in a second polarization direction; a light guide optical system 31, which guides the first and the second light having the first polarization direction to a first image modulation element 41 and guiding the third and the fourth light having the second polarization direction to a second image modulation element 42; and a projection optical system for projecting light from the image modulation elements. A driving means 6 alternately emits the first and the second light sources and alternately switches the first image modulation element between a state for modulating the first light and a state for modulating the second light. Furthermore, the driving means alternately emits the third and the fourth light source and alternately switches the second image modulation element, between a state for modulating the third light and a state for modulating the fourth light. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
