PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display can suppress firing of liquid crystal and deterioration of color reproducibility. SOLUTION: The field-sequential liquid crystal display (liquid crystal display) 100 includes a pixel 22 including liquid crystal 224, a pixel electrode 222 applying voltage to the liquid crystal 224 and a common electrode 223, a display part 2 where a plurality of pixels 22 are arranged in a matrix, and two LEDs 26 (LEDs 26a and 26b). The pixel 22 is driven in accordance with emitted light successively emitted by the two LEDs 26 (LEDs 26a and 26b). The liquid crystal display 100 is constituted to switch an applying direction of voltage to be applied to the liquid crystal 224 in each one vertical scanning period and also switch the LED 26 emitting light in each two vertical scanning periods.
