PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method enzymatically synthesizing cinnamic acid derivative simply, safely and effectively. SOLUTION: In an ionic liquid, a product obtained by transesterifying a carboxyl group of cinnamic acids with a vinyl or an alkyl group is subjected to transesterification with an enzyme, in the transesterification of cinnamic acids with alcohols. The objective cinnamic acid derivatives can be simply and safely produced in high yield from vinyl esters of the cinnamic acids according to the enzymatic method for synthesizing cinnamic acid derivatives. The method has the merits that the objective products are obtained in a single step reaction with a preferable yield, and the transesterification is carried out in a single phase and thus various substrates and enzymes can be used, and the process is free from organic solvents and thereby is gentle to the environment, and the solvent and enzyme can be recycled.
