PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base fabric for an air bag which is improved in retention of tensile strength after being allowed to stand for 3,000 hours in an atmosphere of 110°C. SOLUTION: A base fabric for an air bag which has a soft feeling is provided, in which the multifilament composing the fabric is made of polyamide, the monofilament fineness of the multifilament is 1 dtex or less, and the fabric has a tensile strength retention not less than 70% after being allowed to stand for 3,000 hours in an atmosphere of 110°C.
