The method involves forming a cracking notch (9) in a region of a separation surface/separation plane (7) in a contact surface (8) of the separation plane by a laser so that fracture separation takes place in the region of the separation surface/separation plane. The cracking notch is cleared away by mechanical treatment after fracture separation, where the notch depth is in the range of 0.03-0.3 millimeter. A wall of the cracking notch is chamfered at an angle in the range of 7-10 degree, where a component (1) is made of forged steel or case-hardened cast iron.
