PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel cord for rubber article reinforcement having improved cord strength by preventing the generation of advance breakage of the outermost layer filament of a steel cord having a double twist structure, and a pneumatic tire produced by using the steel cord as a reinforcing material. SOLUTION: The steel cord 10 for rubber article reinforcement has a double twist structure obtained by twisting a plurality of steel filaments to obtain strands 1, 2 and twisting the plurality of the obtained strands. Of the strands, the core strand 1 is plated with a metal or an alloy having a hardness lower than that of a carbon steel constituting the steel filament. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
