PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide fireproof lumber that retains features of lumber while surely providing fire resistance. SOLUTION: Fireproof lumber A is formed by incorporating a lumber main part 5, a sodium silicate layer 6 provided in a manner covering the surface 5a of the lumber main part 5, and a surface lumber part 7 provided in a manner coating the sodium silicate layer 6. Also, on the sodium silicate layer 6, there is formed a through-hole 8 connecting the lumber main part 5 and the surface lumber part 7, securing a passage of air or the like from the lumber main part 5 to the surface lumber part 7 and further to the outside, activating humidity-conditioning nature of the lumber main part 5 as well as diffusing scent to the outside, and thus preventing features of the lumber from being lost.
