Disclosed is a novel cationic photopolymerization initiator which efficiently absorbs light and generates protons. A preferable example of the cationic photopolymerization initiator may be composed of a bismuthonium salt represented by general formula (II). [In the formula, R11, R12 and R13 may be the same or different and each represents an optionally substituted monocyclic aryl group or an optionally substituted monocyclic heteroaryl group; R14 represents an optionally substituted condensed polycyclic aromatic group or an optionally substituted condensed polycyclic heterocyclic group; and X- represents a counter anion to a cation.]
