An apparatus and a method for retransmitting data in a wireless communication system using a relay method are provided to separately perform ARQ(Automatic Retransmission reQuest) of a relay link and an automatic retransmission request of a connection link, thereby increasing data retransmission efficiency according to an automatic retransmission request of an MAC(Medium Access Control) layer. A base station(100) transmits data to a relay station M(120) through a relay station 1(110). The relay station M checks whether error occurs in data provided through the relay station 1. The relay station M transmits error information of the data to the base station through the relay station(143). When the relay station M transmits the data to a terminal when the data received through the relay station 1 does not have error(145). The terminal checks whether the data received from the relay station M has error. The terminal transmits the error information of the data to the relay station M(147). The relay station M transmits error information of a connection link received from the terminal to the base station through the relay station 1(149).
