When an optical module in which a comb-like sub mount is fixed onto a heat sink and an element having an optical function portion is mounted on the comb-like sub mount is constituted, a stress buffer block for reducing heat stress acting between the heat sink and the comb-like sub mount is arranged between the heat sink and the comb-like sub mount. Consequently, the heat stress acting between the comb-like sub mount and the element mounted on the comb-like sub mount is reduced. As a result, long-term reliability of a connection portion between the comb-like sub mount and the element is increased.
