<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup which obtains a desired focal error signal with respect to a plurality of laser beams of different wavelengths and multilayer disks, and to provide an optical disk drive. <P>SOLUTION: The optical pickup includes: a laser light source 10 which oscillates laser beams of a plurality of wavelengths; an objective lens 24 which condenses the laser beam to the optical disk 31; a beam splitter 21; a photodetector 43 which detects the laser beam reflected on the optical disk, and propagating through the objective lens and beam splitter; a liquid crystal element 41 which is arranged in an optical path from the optical disk to the photodetector and has a variable lens function which refracts the laser beam in a first direction in a plane perpendicular to an optical axis; and a liquid crystal element 42 which is arranged in the optical path from the optical disk to the photodetector and has a variable lens function of refracting the laser beam in a direction different from at least the first direction in a plane perpendicular to the optical axis. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
