<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vein authentication apparatus for a foldable portable device and a vein authentication method capable of effectively deciding an irradiation start timing of a near-infrared light. <P>SOLUTION: The vein authentication apparatus installed in the foldable portable deice including a first case having a display unit, a second case having an operating unit, and a hinge unit for rotatably linking the first case and the second case to each other, comprises: a light source unit for radiating the near-infrared light to a part of a living body to be disposed at the first case, the second case, or the hinge unit; an imaging unit to be disposed at the hinge unit and for producing vein imaging data by imaging a part of the living body after switching an imaging mode to a vein imaging mode in response to a rotation operation; a vein pattern extracting unit for extracting the vein pattern from the vein imaging data; and an authentication unit for authenticating the extracted vein pattern. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
