PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device that can prevent wrinkling of recording paper. SOLUTION: Hardness of the elastic layer 52c at both ends of a fixing roller 52 is made lower than that of the elastic layer 52b at the middle part, thereby: making the amount of conveyance of paper at both the ends of the fixing roller 52 larger than that in the middle part; and applying an action spreading the recording paper in the directions of both the ends. Since the fixing process is performed while stretching slack caused in the middle of the recording paper before a fixing nip, wrinkling of the recording paper can be prevented.
