PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of controlling a work vehicle, and the work vehicle, allowing proper setting of a charge amount to a battery.

SOLUTION: The method of controlling the work vehicle has: an estimation step S1 for integrating current charged to the battery and current discharged from the battery to estimate a charging rate of the battery; a charge amount determination step S3 for determining the charge amount of the battery based on the estimated charging rate; a correction amount determination step S5 for determining charge power necessary for motors to generate power of the determined charge amount as a correction amount for power supplied by an engine; and an addition step S6 for adding the charge power to supply power of the engine determined from a state of traveling and load-handling.
