PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the need to manually obtain information pertaining to a peripheral device from a CD-ROM. SOLUTION: When a peripheral device 56 is connected to a host computer 20, a stored network address is read by the host computer 20. The network address is preferably determined by the host computer 20 when a peripheral device, such as a USB device, is initially connected to the host computer 20, or when the host computer 20 with a newly connected USB is powered on. The network address is then used by the host computer 20 to communicate with a remote device so that the information pertaining to the peripheral device 56, such as a device driver for the peripheral device, can be accessed by the host computer 20 at the remote peripheral device 56.
