PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent lamp capable of suppressing degradation of a dark startup characteristic. SOLUTION: This fluorescent lamp is provided with: a glass bulb 1 with a discharge space 11 formed therein; a discharge medium filled in the discharge space 11; a phosphor layer 2 formed on the inside surface of the glass bulb 1; and electrodes 3 formed on the glass bulb 1; and is characterized in that alumina 22 wherein the ratio of particles each having a diameter not larger than 2μm is not larger than 10%, further desirably not larger than 5%, and optimally 0% is mixed in the phosphor layer 2.
