PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector equipped with a dimmer where operation sound is prevented from being produced. SOLUTION: The projector 1 includes a light source 111, optical modulation devices (liquid crystal light valves 140R, 140G and 140B) modulating light emitted from the light source 111 in accordance with image information and forming an image, a projection optical system (projection lens 200) projecting the image formed by the optical modulation device, and the dimmer 16 installed on an optical axis of the light emitted from the light source 111 and intercepting a part of the light to adjust light quantity. The dimmer 16 has a conductive polymer actuator whose shape is changed by application of power, and adjusts the light quantity by changing light shielding quantity according to change of the shape of the conductive polymer actuator.
