PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a joining method for performing friction-stir-welding to a butted part of each pair of metal members, which can surely repair defects generated in a plasticized area. SOLUTION: The joining method is used to perform friction-stir-welding to a butted part J1 that is formed by butting a pair of metal members. The joining method includes: a first friction-stir-welding step of applying friction-stir-welding to the butted part J1 from a surface A of a metal member; and a re-friction-stir-welding step of applying again the friction-stir-welding to a plasticized area W1, which is formed in the first friction-stir-welding step, from the surface A at the portion positioned deeper than the first friction-stir-welding step, using a large-sized rotary tool G used in the first friction-stir-welding step.
