A photographing apparatus and a method for correcting a defective pixel used in the same are provided to correct a pixel signal from continuous defective pixels and distinguish a pixel signal from the continuous defective pixels from a pixel signal from normal pixels. A photographing apparatus comprises a photographing unit(2), a pixel signal generator(5), the first extracting unit, an average calculator, the first determining unit and a selector. The photographing unit includes an optical filter(2a) and an image pickup element(2b). The optical filter has a plurality of color filters having different colors which are arranged in the horizontal/vertical directions. The image pickup element has a plurality of pixels corresponding to each color filter. The pixel signal generator generates the third pixel signal a plurality of different color pixels and the second pixel signal transmitted from a plurality of same color pixels.
